Reduce file size, keep original dimensions

Choose a compression preset, a target size in MB, or a custom video bitrate. The target is an estimate, not a guaranteed output size. Compare the actual reduction and preview the video before saving it.

Supported videos and browsers

This tool supports MP4 containers with one H.264 video track and at most one AAC audio track, including silent videos. SDR video up to 60 fps is supported when your device can decode and encode it. HDR, other codecs, and multiple tracks are not supported.

Local processing and saving

Compression uses WebCodecs in a dedicated worker and temporary browser storage. A desktop browser with WebCodecs, OPFS, and File System Access is required. AAC audio is preserved when supported. No server fallback, account, or daily download allowance is used.

Video Compressor FAQs

How can I reduce an MP4 file to a specific size?

Select a supported MP4, choose Target size, and enter the size in MB. The compressor estimates a video bitrate from the duration and audio size. The final file can differ from the target, so compare the actual result before saving.

Will compressing a video reduce its quality?

Lower video bitrate usually means less detail, especially in fast movement and textured scenes. This tool keeps the original pixel dimensions; it does not promise lossless compression. Preview the result and use a higher bitrate if the image looks too soft.

Which video formats and codecs can I compress here?

The supported input is an MP4 container with one H.264 video track and no more than one AAC audio track. Silent videos are also supported. The video must be SDR and no more than 60 fps; MOV, HDR, other codecs, and multiple tracks are not accepted.

Does this compressor upload my video or require an account?

No. Video processing runs locally in a dedicated browser worker and uses temporary storage on your device. Compression does not require sign-in or consume the daily video download allowance. There is no server compression fallback.

Why is video compression unavailable on my phone or browser?

Your browser needs WebCodecs, OPFS temporary storage, and the native file-saving API, plus working H.264 decoding and encoding on the device. Mobile and other unsupported browsers may lack these capabilities. Use a compatible desktop browser; changing the file extension will not fix a missing codec.

Why is the compressed file not smaller, or why does saving fail?

An already efficient video may not shrink much at the chosen bitrate. Try a lower bitrate and check quality, rather than repeatedly compressing the output. Storage shortages or a cancelled save can also stop delivery; free local storage or retry saving the completed result.
